Conduct a research study on e-Commerce transaction broker e-business model. Research its purposes, features, designs, strengths, weaknesses as well as its security and privacy.

The term E-Commerce refers to all online transactions.

The 3 main categories of E-Commerce are

  • Business to Business (B2B)
  • Business to Consumer (B2C)
  • Consumer to Consumer (C2C)

Transaction Broker is a person or firm who/which acts as an intermediary between sellers and buyers of businesses. This person or firm does not own the business, but earns a commission through any successful deal being made.

Purposes.. ..


The main purpose of ASA Holidays is to provide a one stop platform for the sale of their service to any consumer in sg over the internet.

Consumers can choose from a variety of tour packages, types of hotel accommodation, and types of airlines & the schedules of the flights that suit his or her preferences. Information such as the world weather, currency converter, prices, the duration of the packages, latest promotions, as well as their hottest deal is conveyed to the consumers over the website.

Also, it allows consumers to do online travel planning. Consumers can purchase their service without having to go to a physical shop. It is a waste of time going there as they will be getting the same itinerary & packages. Furthermore you can select your desired package at the comfort of your homes without having to queue, which is a save of time.

Business Model

  • ASA holidays adopts a Business to Consumer (B2C) business model. B2C refers to selling it's products or services to consumers. They do not own any of the business, such as the hotel and airline companies. They merely negotiate prices on inventory with the suppliers directly and earn a slight commission from their suppliers after making a successful deal with the consumers.

It is simple and organized with clear labeling for each category.

The website consists of:

  • A white background
  • Contrasting its company’s logo which is in pink & green.
  • Uses Pink & Green fonts (the color of the company’s logo) to indicate
    -> The current deals & promotions
    -> Some important information which customers might need to know
    e.g. traveler tools & customers testimonials.

  • Black fonts for further descriptions and details.
  • Scenic pictures are posted on the web to give customers a feel of how the places are going to be like.

Strengths... ..

Strengths of the website:

  • Traveling tools are there to assist the customers:




  • The site is user friendly

  • Easy to read contents

  • There is no overloading of information on each page.

  • One is able to book flight tickets, hotel accomodations and buy travel insurance, all on the same website.

  • There is a variety of holiday packages to choose from (from group tours to free and easy). There is also a variety of airlines and hotels to choose from, customers are able to compare the prices of each choice.

  • Travel maps are provided online- Customers are able to select their desired hotel, based on the location they would like to stay at. (eg.central area of taipei)

  • Itinery of the particular place will be shown upon clicking on the picture or links of the tour they chose. This can aid the customer's understanding of the place they will be visiting and how the tour will be like.

  • The website provides contact details, including the company's e-mail and telephone number, so that customers can get hold of them if they have any enquires.

  • The website includes testimonials of customers commenting on how they enjoyed the trip, and how the trip is like on a whole. This would allow any interested customers to have a gauge on how their services are like.

  • A currency converter is provided. Customers can calculate the conversion rates at the click of a finger. Also, they need not worry about the conversion rates/fluctuations.

Weaknesses.. ...


Weaknesses of the website:

1) The web page is only in one language, which is English.

What improvements could be made?

- Could have the ability to translate the page, in English to other languages such as Chinese, Japanese, Korean and etc.

2) Visual-Pictures are use as a form of attraction for the customers.

What improvements could be made?

-Videos or clips could be use instead to allow better visual effects.

3) It is time-consuming to look for a suitable flight and hotel from scratch, as they are given many options.

What improvements could be made?

- The website can provide comparison charts to compare the prices of the fights provided by the different airlines as well as the prices of the hotel rooms provided by the different hotels. This would allow the customers to obtain the cheaper alternative at one look rather than having to click on the different options.

4) Only able to pay for flights and hotel accommodations, but unable to pay for travel packages online. (Have to make a trip down for payment)

What improvements could be made?

- Allow customers to pay for their tour packages online as this will save them alot of time.

What their direct competitor's have that they do not:

Dynasty Travels provide car rental bookings, but ASA holidays do not have that option.

They have an online chat system to help customers in their enquiries and doubts, instead of them calling or making a trip down. It saves time and effort as customers are already online. It minimizes search cost too. This is a good "plus point" to assist the customers in.

Internet based systems are very vulnerable because the internet is designed to be open to anyone. Every piece of information needs to go through many computer systems before it reaches its destination. Information/data can be monitored, captured as well as stored at any of the points along the route.

Today, due to the advancement in technology, many people can intercept and spy on streams of electronic information as data flow through the net and other open networks. Interceptions usually happen during transactions are being made. Important data that might be intercepted may include the names of the credit card holders and the credit card numbers. Security of Electronic payments is one reason why E-Commerce has not grown more rapidly online.
